Rains spruce up course

“We definitely welcome the coming spring rains, but we’re still enjoying the game. I personally had a good game,” said golfer, John McGregor.

Winter is on its way out and golfers welcomed the rains on Friday night after it injected some life back into the Newcastle Golf Course.

The moisture left behind by the rain made the playing surface a bit softer, which provided a bit of extra cushioning in the grass come Saturday’s play-offs.

“We definitely welcome the coming spring rains, but we’re still enjoying the game. I personally had a good game,” said golfer, John McGregor.

Pradeep Singh corroborated these sentiments but felt the course was still very dry.

Having played what he termed a ‘decent game,’ Mr Singh explained that due to the dry course, the game wasn’t ideally represented.

“By October the course should be really stunning, once the rainy season starts,” believed Mr Singh.

Golfers participated in the Waterside Wimpy/Engen Monthly Mug that split golfers into three divisions.

Mark Mc Kilop topped the A division on 71 points, while Tinkie van der Heever and Leon Pienaar topped the B and C divisions respectively, both completing the round on 68 points.
