On October 18 four school jukskei teams from the Umzinyathi District, managed by Leon Lombard, went to the Top Schools Jukskei Eliminations held in Durban. The teams travelled to Durban on Friday and returned very late on Saturday.
The U/19 boys’ team from Sarel Cilliers High School – Sko Dlamini (captain), Thando Mncube, Senzo Mncube, Alfred Mthethwa, Lusanda Nyanda and Assistant Coach Mandla Mavimbela – won the gold medal of the day.
The U/19 girls’ team from Sarel Cilliers High School – Yenziwe Mlambo, Londiwe Shange, Minenhle Masondo, Zizi Shabangu (captain), Thina Dladla and Assistant Coach Sanele Khambule – came second in their section, but unfortunately came fourth in KZN after the play-off. The winning school in the U/19 girls’ section was Zwelibanzi High School from the Umlazi District.
The U/14 boys’ team from Dundee Junior School – Siphelele Hlongwane (captain), Nzuzo Mhlongwa, Langa Mthombeni, Mvelo Sibisi, Ruan van Reenen and Coach Henko van Reenen – won the gold medal of the day.
The U/14 girls’ team from Dundee Junior School – Amanda Mazibuko, Snegugu Zwane, Andile Mbatha, Sne Memela, Sne Khumalo and Coach Sophie Mncwango – won the gold medal of the day.
The winning teams – boys’ U/14 and girls’ U/14 (both from Dundee Junior School) and the boys’ U/19 team from Sarel Cilliers High School, and girls’ U/19 from Zwelibanzi High School in Umlazi – will travel to Pretoria at the end of the year to participate in the South African Top Schools Jukskei Tournament from December 10 to 14.
