
The new cricket season has started with a bang.
On Sunday Mascor and Brothers United did battle in a 50-over game, which turned out to be an absolute thriller. Mascor batted first and were skittled out for 102.
Vernen top-scored with 38 not out and Saieed made 11. Brothers’s best bowlers were Amith, who took 3/30, and Usheer, who took 3/50.
Despite the low total, the Brothers side was made to work hard, needing four runs with two wickets in hand. Up stepped Vernen, who took the final two wickets as Brothers was bowled out for 99.
Logan and Shaun were the chief destroyers, taking 4/11 and 4/34 respectively.
Usheer made 46 and Rishi made 17 for Brothers.
On Saturday Molls took on Endumeni Development at the Oval in a 30-over game. Endumeni batted first, getting 178/8 in their allotted overs. Zeze top-scored with 57 and Nishen made 43 not out. Collin took 2/19 and Daniel took 2/35 for Molls.
Molls took to the crease but their run chase fell short. Despite 30 from Jurie and 17 from Colin, they were bowled out for 110. Pieter took 5/34 for Endumeni and Dean took 2/12 as Endumeni Development cruised to victory.
Farmers took on Asia 11 in the other 30-over game on Saturday at Kallies Stadium. Asia batted first and were bowled out for only 98. Shockat made 28 not out and Saeed made 20. Joff took 3/14 and Anthony took 2/20 as Farmers turned the screws. In reply, Farmers made the score with eight wickets in hand.
Hendrik was in fine form, making 54 not out, while Jacques made 17 not out. Suleman took 1/14 and Saeed took 1/21 as Asia 11 had no answer to the Farmers batsmen.
This Saturday Farmers and Brothers United will face off at the Oval while Pakistan Lions and Endumeni Developmment will do battle at Kallies.
