Glamorous year-end function for Bulldogs Rugby Club
The rainy weather did little to dampen the spirits of all who attended the glittering event
The Bulldogs Rugby Club held their annual year-end function and prize-giving ceremony at Settlers Park on Saturday evening.
The rainy weather did little to dampen the spirits of all who attended the glittering event. Club vice-chairman Marx Zaayman gave an entertaining review of the 2014 season, and new chairman Andre Beukes highlighted his vision for an exciting 2015 season. Head coach Christo Kruger (2014/2015) gave a stirring speech about training and commitment, and thanked the players for their dedication.
Special guest, Ladysmith lad Fred Zeilinga of the Cell C Natal Sharks, was on hand to congratulate the players whose achievements this season were rewarded with trophies in various sections.
Trophy recipients were: Gavin Goslin – ‘First Team Player of the Year’, Thole – ‘Forward Player of the Year’, Ronnie Parker – ‘Backline Player of the Year’, Lennert Buitendach – ‘Clubman of the Year’, Thole – ‘Most Improved Player’, UJ – ‘Most Versatile Player’, Duran Law – ‘Most Dedicated Player’, Pieter Cohen and Jaco Moolman – ‘Stirrer of the Year’, Izak Boshoff – ‘Courage in the face of Adversity’, Killer – ‘Coaches Choice Award’, Jaco Moolman – ‘U/20 Northern KZN’, Christo Kruger – ‘Chairman’s Choice Award’, Pieter Cohen – ‘Sportsman of the Year’.
Izak Boshoff and Lennert Buitendach, who shared the captaincy this year, were called up to collect two trophies which cemented the Bulldogs reputation in the second division – Northern KZN league winners and Zululand league winners. A fine evening was capped with an exciting auction which raised over R50,000 and an exciting dinner followed by a live band, DJ, much dancing and celebrating.
