Reeling in the big one

The Angling Professional League (APL) reeled in big catches to start off the new year during the third round of the Vees Micron Enterprises League on January 18.
The battleground of the anglers was the shores of Sanford and it seemed the fish were begging to be caught, as anglers weighed in catch after catch.
Paper House seemed to be well on form as the team demolished opponents’ efforts, racking up a total of 130 points.
Closest rivals Team Streetwire managed to reel in a clinical 86 points, while Fishing People managed a modest 62, followed by Super Stars on a meagre 38 points.
Veteran angler, Monty Slabbert once again proved that wisdom with the rod trumped sheer luck, as he landed an impressive 28 points allowing him to hook both the orange and purple caps.
Dan Govender and Shane Mangaroo were Monty’s closest competitors finishing on 24 points each.
This is the fifth time the purple cap has changed hands and while it was Monty’s first time to wear it, he has previously won the orange cap having topped the log in previous events.
With the season reaching the midway marker, interesting developments in the title challengers department are on the cards.
Several contenders for Angler of the Year have surfaced in their hopes for glory, with Monty in poll position on 47 points. Vicky Bhooli hotly pursues him on 46 points and Ossie Oosthuizen is catching up on 41 points.
League standings and the current log can be found in the results column.
The next competition of the APL will be League 4 at Richgate Park on 1 March 2015 and the forerunners in each competition would be going for glory.
Membership to the APL is ongoing, and membership forms may be collected from Midas Spares (Mr Omar); Fishing People (Shabir); Terence Chetty (072 786 0866) or Monty Slabbert on 082 391 6324 for more information.
