Despite the clouds that burst late in the afternoon, 26 participants of the fairer sex were undeterred from competing in the annual Northern Region Open and Close Championships.

Competitors travelled from Amanzimtoti, Pietermaritzburg, Vryheid and Dundee to compete for top honours in the tournament’s three categories, namely gold, silver and bronze.

Jane Mackenzie won the gold category, Open and Close divisions, while the exceptionally brilliant Jenny Darvall secured a win in the Closed Stroke Play, silver division.

Wendy Carruthers was her opposite number in the same division, by being placed top of the table in the Open Stroke category, as well as the senior stroke play, while Anika Smit was crowned champion of the junior stroke play division.

Pendie van Staden was the final winner having secured her top spot in the Closed Stable Ford bronze category.
