A challenging day on the greens
The Northern Region Open and Close Championships took place at Newcastle Golf Club on Sunday.

Altogether, 26 women from as far as Amanzimtoti, Pietermaritzburg, Vryheid and Dundee competed in the annual tournament.
The championships were divided into three categories, namely gold, silver and bronze.
Clinching the win for the gold division was Jane Mackenzie, who secured her win by claiming victory in both Open and Close categories.
Jenny Darvall secured her win in the Closed Stroke play, silver division, while Wendy Carruthers took first place in the Open Stroke category, in the silver division. Mrs Carruthers also won senior stroke play.
Pendie van Staden secured first place in the Closed Stable Ford, bronze division.
Anika Smit won the junior stroke play division during the day.
