Northern KwaZulu-Natal golfers won the Country Districts Inter Zones on home turf last weekend.

Playing against five other teams from around the district, the NKZN golfers were impressive in form and composure.

These golfers are of a professional level, with the average player’s handicap being a scratch, or in the plus two region.

“It was extremely competitive and I am very glad we managed to win against such excellent opponents,” said NKZN golfer, Phumlani Mbhele.

The teams consisted of eight players each and the golfing began on Friday with the Stroke Play format.

On Saturday and Sunday there was a match play competition with the teams putting in a concerted effort to be the best.

Albeit the passing mid-latitude ‘cyclone’ played games with the weather as the golfers played their own games, the tournament champions were still crowned on Sunday.

Northern KwaZulu-Natal’s team comprised of four Newcastle golfers, two Dundee golfers, one golfer from Ladysmith and one from Vryheid.
