Rehabilitation behind schedule

The Paradise A Grounds re-turfiing is well under way albeit it is behind schedule.

The Paradise A Grounds re-turfiing is well under way albeit it is behind schedule.

The much-needed rehabilitation was scheduled to take place between February 9 and March 23.

According to municipal sources (due to the adjustment budget) the project was delayed slightly.

“We want all our sports fields to be of the highest quality. We want our community to enjoy the fields, and although it is taking a bit longer than expected, we will give the community what it deserves.”

For years, the Paradise A Grounds have seen a deterioration in the quality of its fields.

Sporting bodies have complained about the lack of service delivery, and this is why the municipality has taken it upon itself to address all the community’s sporting issues.

The employment of sports co-ordinator, Portia Watson, was the first step.

Since her appointment, Ms Watson has met with the numerous bodies to hear their concerns.

“The re-turfing is just the start. I have begun looking into all the issues to address as many as possible,” said Ms Watson.

Sporting bodies across Newcastle are excited about these prospects.

Newcastle Court Soccer Association chairman, Shabir Ismail, said he was glad with the development of the grounds as Newcastle’s sporting community was rapidly growing, and the development of the grounds would definitely assist this growth.
