Carpet bowlers beat the burn

Carpet Bowls Round-up

A small but warm-hearted group attended this month’s Indoor Carpet Bowls Social on March 28.

Play commenced at 6pm and ended after 9pm.

Those present enjoyed the new-look facility and a thrilling trips game of two sets of seven ends, which ended in a tie-breaker of an additional three ends.

Team A comprised of Hester (skip), Ina (second) and Claire (lead).

On the opposite end was Team B, consisting of Billy (skip), Trevor (second) and Mark (lead), with Mark Villiers the reserve and mascot.

Team B won the first set, with Team A taking the second.

Team A was unfortunate to burn the final end of the tie-break, thus having to replay and allowing team B to squeeze home by two to one on the final end.

“A special thanks to Ina Vorster for the wonderful catering. We all enjoyed tasty vetkoek and mince as well as a delicious Amarula-flavoured chocolate cake. A super evening, enjoyed by all,” commented organiser, Trevor Smale.

Visitors are welcome to attend the next monthly social at 6pm on April 25, at Century Place Indoor Bowls Club on 96 Paterson Street.

Prospective players can contact Ina on 034 315 5929.

Regular monthly socials take place on the last Saturday of each month between 6- and 9pm, and are open to all.
