Vryheid Athletics Club – Comrades’ – The clock is ticking
The Comrades' Marathon is a few weeks away and the athletes are getting in their last bit of training. Go well, go easy and keep healthy and fit. This is countdown time. The Comrades' Social will be held on May 28. RSVP to Carla if you will be joining in to wish the runners well. This will also be our Tekkie Time Trial evening.
LAST week’s Thursday time trial had a presentation by Bambatha Events about the Meatmasters race which is going to be held on August 15.
Patrick Friend chaired the informative presentation which saw both athletes and cyclists attend to hear about this exciting event that Bambatha Events and Vryheid Athletics Club is hosting. Thanks to the cyclists that joined in for the evening and to the cycling wives that provided the salads. Keep the weekend of August 15 open to be able to participate in this two day cycling event with a run/walk race for those who prefer to keep both feet on the ground.
This past weekend VAC had a club weekend in St Lucia which was most enjoyable. On Saturday evening we had a fish braai thanks to our very own fisherman, who caught the fish fresh from the sea.
On Sunday morning the athletes were ready for the race, which had a 21km, 10km and a 5km run/walk. It was a most enjoyable race with hot and humid weather conditions due to the late start waiting for the race referee to arrive. Many thanks to all the members who were there, to Sue for organising our accommodation and those on the committee that also helped with this weekend.
