Anglers reel in rewards

The Angling Professional League (APL) recently held its prize giving where members were rewarded for their performance during the season.

Team Paper House was awarded R2 500 for winning four league competitions and the Grand Challenge. Fishing People won R500 for securing the win in the Knock-Out league, while Streetwire was awarded R500 for winning League One.

Monty Slabbert was crowned as the “Angler of the Year” and won a weekend away at the Drakensberg for him and his family. Valued at R4000, the trip was sponsored by APL.

Naesh Rajkumar and Matthew Shunmugam earned themselves R500 each for cracking the 4kg and 10 kg mark respectively for both the scaled and non-scaled category during the Grand Challenge.

Other title holders awarded at the prize giving were Naesh Rajkumar for the heaviest scaled fish, Matthew Shunmugam for the heaviest non-scaled fish, Shakeel Sheik and Kishore Datadin for heaviest scaly. Shane Mangaroo was dubbed Champion of Champions, Harry Singh as the Knock-Out Champion and Internal KO Singles Champion, Avi Buduram as Junior Angler of Year and Dan Govender as the Senior Angler of the Year.

Rishen Nankoo and Minesh Gopi were named Knock-Out Doubles Champions, Whity Maharaj was crowned Social Outing Champion for both the Scaled and Non-Scaled categories, Oosie Oosthuizen was named Grand Challenge Champion and Monty Slabbert took the titles of Most Fish Caught, Highest Point Scorer, League Champion and Angler of the Year.

Special awards were presented to Suniana Ramlal, “Lady Angler of the Year” and Yacoob Patel for landing a bass of 3,020kg during the season, which is a rare catch at Chelmsford Dam.

The new season starting on August 1, promises to be an exciting one with new affiliates joining the APL fold.

Individual members wishing to join the APL are most welcome and will be assigned to teams.

The APL is currently taking membership for the new season.
