Taking second place was Billy Nicholas, Piet Reyneke and Trix Baasden, with an (eight + five) finish to rival that of Ernie and team’s (eight + 10).

Last weekend, the Club Singles Championships got under way, with a healthy entry of 24 men divided into eight sections, and 12 women divided into four sections.

The three players in each section played each other to determine the section winners who would move into the knock-out stages.

The women’s section winners then played their semi – final matches with Michelle Steele coming from behind to edge out Eleen Roux. Samantha Shaw did likewise to pip Anne Wood in closely fought games.

The men’s quarter finals saw Sid Price beat a gallant Mike Martens, Fritz Botha edging out Tony Reis, Billy Villiers doing exceptionally well to beat Lou Roux and John Douthwaite getting in ahead of Ernie Phillips.

In the semi- final games Sid continued his excellent form to beat Fritz while John beat Billy.

The women’s final played between mother and daughter, and the men’s final between two old adversaries, will be played on June 27.

Members are reminded the Club Prize Giving will be held on Friday evening, July 24 and the Club Annual General Meeting on Saturday afternoon July 25.

Nominations for the committee are to placed on the notice board.
