Burnt End
The final competitions on the club calendar were completed last weekend.
The final of the women’s singles championships was between the mother and daughter combination of Michelle Steele and Samantha Shaw.
Samantha got into her stride early into the game and built up a healthy lead which she never relented.
Michelle valiantly managed to claw her way back into the game, but Samantha’s more consistent drawing saw her to a well -deserved victory.
The men’s final between rivals, Sid Price and John Douthwaite took a very similar path with Sid finding his weight early in the game to take a comfortable 16 – nine lead.
John then scored a three and two, to be only two shots behind, but Sid finished the game with a flourish by also scoring a two and three to beat his out of sorts opponent, and also deservedly won the coveted title he had held on many occasions.
The three women novice singles entrants played each other in a round-robin format with Lindsay McArthur winning both her games (four + 22) to win the title, with Trix Baasden (two – one) the runner up.
The four novice men did likewise with the unbeaten Martin Baasden (six + 23) the overall winner, and young Aspen Shaw (four + six) the runner up for the second successive year.
