Thirty bowlers participated in the club’s monthly chicken competition, played on Saturday, saving themselves the agony of watching the Springboks gift their game to the Aussies!

Winners of the chickens were Fritz and Maria Botha, and Roger Jackets.

The All Natal Men’s and Ladies’ Pairs competition started last Saturday, with a number of Newcastle teams playing in the event hosted by Port Natal Bowling District in Durban.

Playing in sections of six and each team thus playing five games, Stephen Shaw and Adrian van der Merwe did exceptionally well to win their section and qualify for the knock-out stage, which started on Monday.

Dorothy Crosbie and Michelle Steele finished second in their section, while Samantha Shaw and Vicky van der Merwe finished midway in theirs.

The 10-year-old Aspen Shaw played with his grandfather, Monty Steele, and gained valuable experience from participating in this tournament.

Bowlers are reminded of the club’s prize giving and AGM, to be held on July 24 and 25 respectively.
