Aveen shoots straight to the top

Local darts player helps SA win gold in Swaziland.

Local detective, Warrant Officer Aveen Jagath, darted his way to the top after representing South Africa at the Southern Africa Police Chiefs Organisation (SAPCO) Games in Swaziland.

W/O Jagath was part of the six-man darts team that won gold at the competition. He also won gold in the pair’s competition with partner John Ince and brought home the bronze in the singles competition.

The SAPCO Games pits police officers from 13 Southern African countries against each other in a variety of sports. “It is a very tough competition,” said W/O Jagath. “Botswana and Zimbabwe’s police teams also represent their countries in other tournaments.”

Team South Africa also competed in athletics, tennis, chess, netball, men and women’s volleyball and soccer. Apart from doing well at the darts, they also scooped gold for the tennis.

W/O Jagath expressed how happy he was he to have won the gold, considering how hard it is to make the national team. “You first have to be selected to represent KZN before you can make it to nationals. They then choose the best six in the country to represent the national police team.”
