Reeling in the biggest rewards

The Angling Professional League hosts its inaugural open competition next month.
Taking place on November 29 at Sandford (islands), organisers are putting the finishing touches on the event.
The competition is very different to regular open competitions.
Firstly, it takes place during the day, in order to avoid burdening anglers with overnight fees and any transgressions under the cover of darkness.
Secondly, the prize amounts are some tens of thousands of Rand.
The scaled category carries a first prize total of R12 000, the non-scaled winner bags R8 000 and other prizes include appliances, fishing gear, accessories and cash amounts.
Also incorporated is a ‘skins’ competition, over two sessions.
“The skins carry a price tag of R4 000 for both scaled and non-scaled categories, and anglers might just have luck on their side to win,” explained APL president, Matthew Shunmugam.
The competition begins at 5.30am, with the weigh-in closing at 4pm.
Entrance fees are R150 per angler, excluding gate fees, and queuing starts at the main gate – no observers are permitted.
“Tickets are available from Mohamed’s Midas, Murchison Street Motors, Lennoxton Motors, Ally’s Butchery, Ismail’s Trading and Vees Extreme Tackle.”
