The Newcastle Futsol League (NFL) held its annual year-end function last Sunday evening.

All players affiliated to the league were treated to a social braai and awarded for their sports accolades.

The NFL is a social six-a-side soccer league that takes place on Sundays, Tuesdays and Thursdays from 6pm.

Terrence Chetty from NFL said some of the players affiliated to the league came from disadvantaged backgrounds, and the NFL ensured these players played soccer at no cost at all.

“Our active alcohol and drug awareness programme has seen a lot of children and adults join in on the fun; we keep them busy and off the streets,” he said.

Thashil Rooplal was crowned as the best junior goalkeeper, while Nazeer Shaikh was named the best senior goalkeeper.

Calvin Pillay was dubbed best junior defender, while Donovan Pillay was named the best senior defender.

The most talented player award went to Ebu Methule, with Omar Shaikh clinching the award for best up-and-coming star.

The highest goal scorer was Nishen Ramduth, while Alphy Harry was player of the season.

The NFL congratulated all teams and representatives on a successful season.

“We would also like to thank our sponsors for all their assistance throughout the season and would like to wish everyone well over the festive season,” Mr Chetty said.

The NFL season will close on December 23 and will kick off on January 7, 2016.

Anyone wishing to join the league can contact Terence Chetty on 076 618 5476.
