Local rider, Craig van Heerden, completed his ninth Roof of Africa race in Lesotho last month. And it appears as if for Craig it was a case of lucky number nine…

“This was by far the best Roof for me. Everything really went well and I had an awesome race.”

The drought – which has also hit Lesotho – made the riding conditions dry which meant that the riders had to cope with plenty of dust and at times, poor visibility.

Despite this, Craig rode very well, finishing 30th in the gold class. The Roof of Africa, one of the worlds’s toughest off-road biking races, is held over three days – a time trial of 48km, stage one 136km and stage two, 128km. He thanked his family for their support and sponsors, Liquorland.

Now that the dust has settled, Craig is confident that he will be back next year to hit the Roof!
