Angler reels in the orange cap

The fourth round of the Vees Micro Enterprises (VME) League, under the auspices of the Angling Professional League (APL), was held on January 10 at Richgate Park.

Breakwaters Angling Club emerged victors with 107 points, followed by Challengers on 84 points and Stillwaters on 49 points.

Kaveer Singh of Breakwaters was in top form, receiving the orange cap, his outright trophy and R200, as the top angler of the day.

In addition, he retained the purple cap as the overall log leader of the APL.

He achieved this feat in the past two competitions, thus building a commanding lead and placing himself favourably for the title of ‘Angler of the Year’.

The top five anglers for Breakwaters and Stillwaters were Kaveer Singh (25 points), Shane Mangaroo (17 points), Minesh Gopi (15 points), Barge Ramlal (nine points) and Chris Lello (eight points).

Currently, the VME League Log table sees Breakwaters in pole position on 22 points, followed by Challengers on 18 points and Stillwaters on eight points.

The last two rounds of the League competitions should be fiercely contested, as the teams go all out in a bid to claim the title of League Champion.

Next on the calendar for the APL is the Transnat Knock-Out Competition Eliminator, which will be held on January 31 at Sandford.

The top two teams will advance to the final round of the Knock-Out Competition.
