Solms takes Northern KZN Golf Open played over 36 holes in Dundee

The President of NKZN Golf, Johan Hugo, gave praise and thanks to Dundee Country Club for a very successful tournament, and was on hand to present the respective winners with their prizes.

The Dundee Country Club was proud to host the 2016 Northern Natal Open Golf Championships on Sunday, kindly sponsored by Farmers Agri-Care and played over 36 holes.

A maximum field of 90 players competed for this coveted trophy which saw the majority of the players being visitors from various golf clubs in the province.
Leading the field after the first 18 holes with a score of 69, was Derek Scullard from Cathedral Peak Golf Club, followed by the clubs own Louis Albertse (Jnr) on 72.

However, both these players seemed to struggle over the second 18 holes only to see Wickus Solms, from Vryheid Golf Club, recording a great round of 68 to follow up on his morning score of 73 to finish the day on 141, and be crowned the 2016 Northern Natal Open Champion.

The final prize winners for the Championship were as follows; Champion: W. Solms (141), 2nd M Van Deventer (142), 3rd L Mayo (144), 4th D Scullard (144) and in 5th place was Louis Albertse (146). The B Division was won by Ayanda Mthembu with a final score of 150, followed by Sifiso Kunene on 154. The prize for the best net score for the day went to Jan Venter.
The Club competition held on Saturday in the form of I.P.S. attracted a field of 37 golfers with Sibusio Mthembu winning the day with 37 points, followed by I Khumalo with 36 points and in third place was W Van Heerden with 35 points. There were four players who carded a 2 Club and a share of the pool; W Ackerman No.12, G Scott No.8, L Shawe No.12 as well as C Mkhwanazi on No.12. This weekend’s fixtures are; Friday 11 Hole Meat Competition and Saturday’s club competition will be Multiplication Stableford.
