Lucas Sithole aces his way to the top

Newcastle born Lucas Sithole has brought national pride back home after his victory at the Australian Open.

Former Newcastillian, Lucas Sithole, secured his first Grand Slam doubles title today, January 28, winning the quad final with his US partner David Wagner at the Australian Open.

Lucas, who has lost the doubles final for the past two years at Melbourne Park, managed to secure the coveted top spot with David Wagner after they defeated Andrew Lapthorne from Britain and Dylan Walcott from Australia with a score of 6-1 6-3.

Lucas also managed to beat Lapthorne with a score of 2-6 6-1 6-0 in the quad singles division.

This was after his defeat against Wagner in his round robin stage the day before, thereby climbing to second place in the standings and keeping his hopes alive of clinching the singles crown as well.

The Newcastle Advertiser congratulates Lucas Sithole on his victory and for securing his mark in tennis history!
