Shaukat Khan, the Oval Track’s ‘Master of Disaster’

From drag strips to Oval Track, Shaukat Khan is no stranger to pushing high powered motor vehicles to the limits.

From drag strips to Oval Track, Shaukat Khan is no stranger to pushing high powered motor vehicles to the limits.

Shaukat jokingly admitted to drag racing in his younger years, but it was only in 2014 he discovered the joys in competing at the Oval Track.

“It was a spur of the moment decision, which offered something different.”

Since then, Shaukat has kept his sights on the dusty track.

“The Oval Track is way better than drag racing, as it is more family orientated and structured,” he explained.

Since joining the ranks of the Oval Track, Shaukat has become an unstoppable force.

At the recent Oval Track prize giving, he won the coveted ‘Club Champion’ in the 1600 division, clinched second place in the 1660 category, and was awarded the trophy for ‘Master of Disaster’.

“The ‘Master of Disaster’ award was for the most crashes and breakdowns while racing,” he laughed.

Despite the award, Shaukat claimed he learned a lot through putting his trusted 1600 and 1660 cars through their paces.

“I have learned a bit, laughed a lot and even had some disappointing moments on the track.”

Shaukat will now focus on the South African Championships and the regionals.

“I would like to race in the 1660 division at the two competitions and I will be happy with any position.”

While looking forward to improving on his racing career, Shaukat said nothing would have been possible without his sponsor, Dr Ahmed Jamaloodeen, and his mechanics Timmy Govender and Roux van der Colff.

“I would also like to thank my family and fans for all their support,” he concluded.
