Anglers reflect on a bountiful season
Both clubs acquitted themselves well in the Angling Professional League (APL), with Breakwaters earning the VME League Champion and AA Tours Grand Challenge Champion titles.
The 2016/2017 angling season was great for both Breakwaters and Stillwaters.
Both clubs acquitted themselves well in the Angling Professional League (APL), with Breakwaters earning the VME League Champion and AA Tours Grand Challenge Champion titles.
The club then finished second in the Transnat Knock Out.
Stillwaters finished third in the league and showed a vast improvement in performance, as well as scooping the majority of the annual internal awards.
It was also a fantastic season for Breakwaters’ Nadir Chrisenduth.
He was crowned the Angler of the Year with 87 individual points, leads the race for the most fish caught and earned an overall second position of the members of the APL.
This was in addition to two additional prizes he is sure to attain.
Current internal title contenders for the season also include:
Vernon Naidoo for the heaviest scaled fish – a carp of 3.3 kilograms
Sikander Amod for the heaviest non scaled fish – a barbel weighing 6.9kg
Thasheel Rooplal for the heaviest scaly with a catch of 1.2kg
Suvyn Budhoo for his bagging of a rare bass tipping the scales at just over 1kg
Fanie Els for the heaviest eel
Albert van Niekerk for the highest point scorer, earning 40 points in League 4
Veruschka Boodhoo – Lady Angler of the Year
Talia Boodhoo – Junior Angler of the Year
Kidd Rampersadh – Senior Angler of the Year
A Masthan – Social Outing Champion in the scaled category
Sanjeev Hanook – Social Outing Champion in the non scaled category
Mark Ince – Knock Out Internal Champion in the singles division
Anil Boodhoo and Mark Ince – Knock Out Internal Champions in the doubles division
Wayne Oosthuizen – Champion of Champion and Grand Challenge Champion

The next calendar event is the combined AGM and prizegiving for Breakwaters and Stillwaters, with the new season set to kick off on August 1.
