Club captain sweeps the trophies

Presided over by club President, George Meyer and club Captain, Dries Els, the prizegiving saw divisional winners receiving a floating trophy and one to keep for their mantelpiece.

The Newcastle Golf Club Championships played out on Saturday.

A field of avid golfers set off in the early morning, their minds set on a long day on the course in pursuit of the A, B, C and Seniors division crowns.

The day wrapped up with a prizegiving in the late afternoon.

Presided over by club President, George Meyer and club Captain, Dries Els, the prizegiving saw divisional winners receiving a floating trophy and one to keep for their mantelpiece.

The club also sponsored prizes in lieu of sponsors this year.

Despite this setback, Els thanked Keith van Aarde for his assistance with a scoring system, screen and projector, and commended fellow golfers on a great day’s golf.

Niel Swanepoel clinched victory in the A Division with 147 gross points.

Dries Els was the day’s biggest winner however, earning the win in the B Division (168 gross points), the Seniors Division (65 nett points) and the Best Overall Nett score (140 nett points).

The C Division winner was Hansie Alberts, who scored 38 points.
