Hockey A team goes for gold
Paarl plays host to the South African Country Districts tournament from July 10 to 15, and the local lasses are shooting for gold in their fifth year at the competition.
BARRY HERTZOG PARK – July will bring the ultimate test for the Northern KwaZulu-Natal Women’s A side.
Paarl plays host to the South African Country Districts tournament from July 10 to 15, and the local lasses are shooting for gold in their fifth year at the competition.
In this time, the side has grown in leaps and bounds.
From eighth position overall in 2013, the NKZN Women’s A side achieved third, fourth and fifth place in 2014, 2015 and 2016 respectively.
“We believe that with all the hard work and dedication the team and management have put in, we are more than capable of beating the big name teams and bringing home the trophy,” team management said emphatically.
While the team is upbeat about its chances, management admitted the tournament costs were hefty and thanked current sponsors for their support.
Residents and other businesses are urged to chip in.
In a fund-raising drive ahead of the tournament, the NKZN women will host a golf day on June 17 at the Newcastle Golf Club.
“We urge local businesses to please support the team by sponsoring holes or prizes, to help ensure the day is a success. We also ask the community to enter teams and join in on the golf day.”

Men’s A side – Blessing Khumalo.
