New angling season to cast off
The AGM of the APL is set for July 8 at the War Room in Suryaville, commencing at 3pm.
The new season for the Angling Professional League (APL) will begin on August 1.

In its relatively short existence, the APL has seen phenomenal growth and increase in membership from four teams of 10 in 2014/2015, to three fully-fledged clubs the following year.
These clubs – Breakwaters, Stillwaters and Challengers – are still affiliates.
APL membership increased again in the 2016/2017 season, with Dannhauser and Ladysmith angling clubs joining the fold.
In the new season, Glencoe casts off as the latest addition.
The recently-concluded season saw Breakwaters crowned the VME League champion and AA Tours Grand Challenge winner, while newcomers Ladysmith clinched the Knock Out title.
“The APL thanks its major sponsors, members, families and well-wishers for an exciting and gruelling season. The new season promises to be even better!” APL management said.
The season’s title holders include:
Preetam Birbal of Challengers bagged the heaviest carp, while Sikander Amod of Stillwaters relled in the heaviest non-scaled fish.
Suvyn Budhoo of Stillwaters won R500 for his rare bass.
Talia Boodhoo of Stillwaters took the Junior Angler of the Year title, and Veruschka Boodhoo of Stillwaters claimed the Lady Angler of the Year crown.
The Senior Angler of the Year title went to Iqbal Asraff of Challengers.
With the final scores tallied, Ebrahim Mia of Challengers won the prestigious Angler of the Year prize, with Nadir Chrisenduth of Breakwaters in second and Mohamed Mia of Challengers third.
