Karatekas gain new skills at outdoor training

Karate improves body and mind co-operation, and develops character through self defence

The Budo Ryu Karate Club, which started at the Ladysmith Civic Hall in 1976, is one of the oldest dojos in the region. (A dojo is a room or hall in which judo and other martial arts are practiced)

The Shito Ryu style, which is adopted from the Japanese style of karate, is taught at the Budo Ryu Karate Club. The origin of “karate art” is almost as old as man. Karate literally means “empty hands” and implies weaponless self defence.

Karate helps in many areas of life by building a physically fit body and an alert mind, and creating confidence and pride in a person. Karate on the whole also improves body and mind co-operation, and develops character through self defence.

The club recently attended the gashku, which is outdoor training, held at Midmar Dam.
