Cycle CC – A bump in the road for Deon
Deon had suffered a urethral tear and was instructed by the doctor not to get back on the bicycle under any circumstances.
A MEDICAL emergency brought the Cycle CC tour to an abrupt halt on Saturday for one of the Viljoen brothers.
On Saturday morning, while working on his bicycle in Groot-Brakrivier, Deon Viljoen was overcome with excruciating pain and had to be transported to Krugersdorp Private Hospital by bus.

Upon assessment, it was established that, due to the prolonged period of cycling, Deon had suffered a urethral tear and was treated for his injury. However, he was instructed by the doctor not to get back on the bicycle under any circumstances.
“Sterkte, my oom,” writes Deon’s nephew and Vryheid Round Tabler, Hannes Viljoen. “Well done on this amazing feat of endurance and thank you for sacrificing the time away from your family for this cause. You have changed lives and we are proud of you.”

While Carel continues cycling to raise funds for Child Witness Foundation and is scheduled to touch down in Port Alfred by Saturday, Deon’s future in the tour is still under discussion and there is a possibility that the tour may be suspended. For now, however, the Cycle CC Tour is continuing and Deon intends to rejoin once he has recovered.
Public support is still paramount for the brothers and their cause.
