Heated action during 6-a-side tournament in Ladysmith

The long-awaited six-a-side tournament produced some heated action on Saturday at Settlers Park.

The tournament is played in memory of the late IGH “Lytie” Hansa, honorary life president of the Northern District Cricket Union and a stalwart of cricket.

The first game of the day saw K&L taking on Callies CC. With only six players on the field, it was thought that runs would come easy to the batsmen, yet this was not the case.

K&L batted first, with Ashiq Ramdin top-scoring with 26 runs in the team’s six overs, taking K&L to a total of 52.

Callies then went in to bat, determined to chase down the total. Their batsmen put up a great fight to take the match into the very last over of the innings.

With the field spread out, the batsmen saw the opportunity to test the fielders’ arms by taking quick twos or threes.

With the fielders, batsmen and bowlers kept on their toes, Callies won the match by hitting a four off the second to last ball of the innings.

The losing teams still have another chance to play, with great round robin fixtures coming up this weekend at the ground.
