Ladysmith anglers prevail to win AA Challenge
The final fixture of the APL is the Closed Competition which will be held on May 6 at Sandford from Zones A to E where all registered members of the APL will be eligible to participate and put themselves in line to win lucrative prizes and cash.
The Angling Professional League (APL) held it penultimate fixture by hosting of AA Tours Grand Challenge between Breakwaters (winners of the Transnat Knock Out) and Ladysmith Angling Clubs (Winners of the VME League) on April 15 at Zones 3/4 at Richgate Park. Much was at stake as both Breakwaters and Ladysmith AC are already silverware earners this season.
After a hard day of angling, it was Ladysmith AC who prevailed scoring 52 points to Breakwaters 39 points.
Craig Chetty, of Ladysmith AC , was crowned as the “angler of day” with 14 points, winning the orange cap, the outright trophy and R200. Rishen Nankoo of Ladysmith AC caught a monstrous carp which tipped the scale at 4,550kg. He also won a further R500 for cracking the 4kg mark.

The title holders of the APL for the season are Rishen Nankoo of Ladysmith Angling Club (Heaviest Scaled Fish, a carp of 4,550kg); Valentino Murugan of Ladysmith AC (Heaviest Non Scaled Fish – 11,490kg); Abhay Jawair of Stillwaters AC (Junior Angler of the Year – 9 pts); Veruschka Boodhoo of Stillwaters AC (Lady Angler of the Year – 6 pts), Dan Govinder of Ladysmith AC (Senior Angler of the Year – 15pts) and Monty Slabbert of Breakwaters AC (Angler of the Year – 53 pts).
