Taking aim and timing the shot at the Natal Combat Rifle Shooting Championships in Ladysmith
The guys are now preparing for the National Championships, which will be taking place in August
The annual Natal Combat Rifle Shooting Championships took place on Friday and Saturday (April 27 and 28) at the local shooting range.
Marksmen from four provinces “took aim” in the hotly-contested competition over the weekend, with members of the SANDF, SAPS, RTI, Correctional Services and Private Combat Rifle Association taking part.
Events included shooting at various distances at ‘still’ and ‘snapping’ targets. The latter is when the target goes up and down, and the officers must time the shot to the split-second in order to hit the target.
Both men and women competed, showing off their marksmanship skills.
This championship has been held for 41 years now.
The sound of heavy gunfire could be heard from miles away throughout both days of the event.
Two local shottists, Sergeant MA Potas and Attorney Werner Gillespie, also participated in the championships. “The competition was very strong during the two days,” says Sgt Potas.
The guys are now preparing for the National Championships, which will be taking place in August in Bloemfontein.
