NKZN JKA Prepares for SA JKA National Championships

The JKA Northern KwaZulu Natal (NKZN) held its first training session on Saturday (May 12) in Vryheid, in preparation for the South African JKA National Championships.

The Championships will take place on May 25 and 26 at the Standard Bank Arena in Johannesburg.

NKZN JKA Sensei, Johan Swart, said the training began at 9am, and consisted of kata and kumite training exercises, which are based on the criteria and rules applicable to the South African JKA Championships.

“The importance of training and an understanding of the rules and criteria cannot be ignored. It is of utmost importance for all team members, senseis and coaches to ensure the best performance from each and every karateka,” said Swart.

This year, the Northern Kwa-Zulu Natal JKA Region will be sending 132 competitors to the SA JKA Championships.

These championships will also serve as the trials where karateka will be chosen to represent South Africa in the Second JKA Africa Cup Championships, which will be held in Johannesburg in September later this year.

The second training session for the NKZN JKA took place on Saturday, May 19.
