BOWLING NEWS: Camaraderie on the bowling green

The 2018 annual Inter Zone Competition, hosted this year by Klipbank Bowling Club in Ladysmith, was once again a resounding success.

Great bowls and a wonderful spirit of camaraderie were evident despite the competitive nature of the event.

After a slow start, the Northerns women found their form to deservedly win their section (50 points), followed by Zululand (37) and Midlands (33).

In the men’s section, the Midlands teams were quick off the mark to take the lead after the first round.

With steady bowling throughout, the teams maintained their lead during the next three rounds to comfortably retain the title with 55.5 points.

The team was followed by Zululand (39.5) and Northerns (25).

Midlands was then declared the overall winner with a combined total of 88.5 points, followed by Zululand (76.5) and Northerns (75).

All the KwaZulu-Natal Country Bowls zones will be staging its men’s and women’s Fours Competition this weekend, with the Northern Zone event being played at Volksrust Bowling Club.

A number of Newcastle teams have entered and all teams are wished good bowling.
