Golfers enjoy 27 holes of fellowship
The Challenge was competed in three different scoring formats, with the first nine holes being a better ball scramble drive, followed by the normal better ball, and the last nine holes every player had to contribute towards his team score in the combined stableford format.
This past Saturday saw 34 golfers, not only enjoy a day on the golf course, but were also treated to a scrumptious spit-braai afterwards in the inaugural 27 Holes Fellowship Challenge held at Dundee C.C. and kindly sponsored by Dundee Pro Shop.
The players were divided into three teams, with three past Club Captains, Marc Bradbury, Lionel Shawe and Kallie Roets selecting their teams and taking charge of their troops. The Challenge was competed in three different scoring formats, with the first nine holes being a better ball scramble drive, followed by the normal better ball, and the last nine holes every player had to contribute towards his team score in the combined stableford format.
After 27 holes there was a single point that separated the winning team captained by Kallie Roets on 460 points from Marc Bradbury’s team who accumulated 459 points. Lionel’s team finished third, fifteen points behind. The top pairing on the day went to Robert Khumalo and his partner Wonderboy Langa who contributed 87 points towards their team’s score.
Friday’s 10 holes Chicken Run was kindly sponsored by Richard Catlett which saw Gene Robson winning with 22 points followed by Jo Khumalo on 21 points.
The Wednesday competition was won by Mandla Mthethwa on 28 points with H Meintjies finishing in second place on 26 points. The jackpot has yet to be won and now stands at over R800, so golfers get your names down for this week’s competition.
This coming Saturday is the Sanlam Cancer Challenge, an I.P.S. competition held in two different divisions for both men and ladies, so contact The Pro Shop on 034-2181000 to enter. On Sunday, Dundee C.C. will be hosting the N. KZN Men’s local league fixtures with eight teams competing over 36 holes, which will see the Dundee ‘B1’ team up against their club mates, the ‘B2’ team.
The committee would like to extend their grateful thanks to a past member, who is out here on holiday from Australia, Bruce Allen, for his generous contribution in purchasing spares for the course equipment.
