BOWLS: Bowlers compete in their hundreds

Close on 100 bowlers from Dundee, Newcastle and Volksrust gathered at Newcastle Bowling Club (NBC) at the weekend, to participate in the popular FedAuto Trips competition.

While games were lost and won on the greens, interest was also shown in the results of the Durban July, with ticket holders of the draw also winning and losing.

After three games of play in a closed draw, a number of teams finished on three wins and shot difference was then the deciding factor to determine the winner.

With an impressive six points plus 37, Lukas Niemand, Japie Dantuma and Denise Phillips came out tops, followed closely by Doug Steele, Trevor Moore and Adrian van der Merwe (6 + 35).

Third place went to Sid Price, Koen Pretorius and Edith Pretorius (6 + 18), and fourth place to Ron Howe, Alice Howe and Vicky van der Merwe (6 + 17).

At the closing, NBC president, Koen Pretorius thanked the sponsors for their generous support, the visiting teams from Dundee and Ncandu bowling clubs, Lindsay Steele and her helpers for the lunch, and all local bowlers who contributed with eats for tea – all of which contributed to a most enjoyable day.

Also – a reminder again of the AGM and prize giving to be held next weekend -(July 21, and the prize giving on July 20).
