Newcastle SAPS dominate the 50km Memel to Newcastle walk

Each member received a medal at the end of the race, and said they were proud of what they had achieved - congratulations to SAPS!

SAPS officials said they were proud of their achievements.

SAPS members showed off their fitness on National Women’s Day.

A total of 30 officials and administrative staff showed their community spirit, by joining in with the 24th annual Vlam Panelbeaters Blood Buddy Memel to Newcastle Walk, which took off bright and early from Memel last Thursday.

Among participants were Acting Amajuba Cluster Commander, Brigadier Sumayela and Acting Station Commander, Colonel Mike Nkosi.

These SAPS heads not only participated in the 54 kilometre event, but also gave sideline support to other SAPS members.

Spokesman for Newcastle SAPS, Captain Jabulani Ncube said a total of 1 600 athletes took part, but said the stand-out athlete was a 70-year-old who completed the full distance unaided.

SAPS members who also went the distance included Lieutenant Colonel N.L Mabaso of Madadeni SAPS, Colonel Nkosi, Warrant Officer Kotze from Newcastle SAPS and Captain Kevin Steenkamp of Newcastle Public Order Policing.

The other members each took part in the relay event.
