Crowning the singles champions

The first day of spring saw the greens full of bowlers taking part in Club Singles.

At the end of the day, we had two men finalists in VJ Singh and Terry Crane, and two lady finalists in Veronica Malan and Fran Baleri.

The finals would be played the following Saturday.

The second day of spring saw many bowlers from different parts of KZN and the Free State descend on The Nest Bowling Club to take part in The Nest Trips.

As usual, the hospitality was superb and the standard of play was very good.

All in all, a very good day was had by all.

Twilight Bowls are still ongoing on Wednesday evenings.

Sadly, this is not very well attended, but maybe as the weather warms up, more people will come and join in.

This past Saturday saw all kinds of weather in the morning, but by afternoon, the sun came out and although there was a chilly wind, it was good enough for the singles finals to take place.

Both the men’s and ladies’ games began with the scores being very close, but then eventually VJ took the lead and went on to become the singles men’s winner for 2018.

The same happened for Fran and she became the club ladies’ singles winner for 2018.

Very well done to both these bowlers and best of luck for the upcoming Champ of Champs.

On Sunday, it was off to Bergville to play in the Bergville Trips.

The bowlers were surrounded by snow-capped mountains, but fortunately the sun gods smiled down on them and the day was perfect.

The winners of this tournament were from Bergville: Peter Scott, Russell and Walter Moore, with Klipbank coming in second place: Fran Baleri, Veronica Malan and Donovan Fischer.

Well bowled, everyone, and of course a huge thanks to Bergville for a great day.
