New faces on the greens
It was super to see some new faces come along to see “what pots”
What a good weekend of bowls! On Saturday, the Academy was held at Klipbank and it was super to see some new faces come along to see “what pots”.
Gladly, they thoroughly enjoyed themselves and all left with a lot to think about, having learnt some new tricks.
A huge thank you once again to Theunis Fraser and Jimmy Nel for giving up their Saturday to come along and do these disciplines; it is really appreciated.
Sunday saw two greens full for the Hospice Bowls Day. We had some really brand new bowlers and some not so new and then we had the seasoned bowlers.
All I can say is that it was a very fun day; not for everybody, but for most. Refreshments flowed very freely, as it was a very warm day, but it didn’t deter the enthusiasm.
Hospice, as usual, gave the bowlers a wonderful day with great food and super prizes.
Well done to Chandre and her team. The top 10 teams all received a prize, while every bowler got a goody bag and a medal.
The eventual winners were Barbara Baleri, Neal Singh and Adil Singh, while the runners-up were Donovan and Dillon Fischer and Ella van den Heever – very much a family affair.
Well done to these six, but a well done must also go to all the new bowlers who managed to play three games in very hot weather and still come off the greens with smiles on their faces.
When you read this column, the first Spar Tops Business League will have taken place, weather permitting, so it is another noisy seven weeks, what with the music playing and the bowlers shouting serious instructions to their players and of course the laughter, so all I can say is “good bowling to each and every team”.
Another month has passed by, so our October birthdays are upon us. Birthday wishes go to Joe Coetzee, John Elworthy and the chop, Rod van Deventer.
