Local rugby and soccer fans cheer and jeer
Pirates and Sharks share bragging rights
Local sports fans had plenty to cheer about on Saturday afternoon – Pirates downed Chiefs (many say it was an upset!) 2-1 at a packed FNB Stadium. It was one of the best Soweto derbies in years with both teams playing attacking football although the game did become a bit scrappy in the end with both teams giving the ball away.

Meantime, the Sharks put aside the bad memories of last years’ Currie Cup Final by taking the honours 17-12 against Western Province at Newlands.
Western Province were the favourites pre-match but the Sharks were physical, committed and focused on a scorching Cape Town afternoon.
Although Province boasted the best attack in the competition, it was the Sharks who produced the best attacking opportunities and even squandered very good ones but were deserved winners in the end.
Football fans caught the soccer action in the Curry Parlour while rugby fans watched the Currie Cup Final (ironic hey?) in the D an D Club – although not all those watching the rugby were Sharks fans…
