Amith claims match ball with seven wickets against Zululand

On Sunday, Umtshezi Town Team hosted Vryheid (Zululand) in an Inland Promotional 50 over match. Vryheid won the toss and chose to bat first.

Amith Mangaroo, opening the bowling for Umtshezi, struck early in his first over taking out both the opening batsman with the visitors on 20/2 by the second over.

Vryheid found some fire in the form of N Westcott scoring 41 (37) and C Dougherty scoring 27 (26) in a 52 run partnership but it was Amith again who struck in his return spell, together with Suvedh Ramprith, to remove the dangerous pair with the visitors on 72/3 by only the 10th over.

Unfortunately for Vryheid, the pair of bowlers was not done and in a ferocious spell of slogging and some precise and quick bowling, saw Suvedh pick up one more wicket and Amith another five wickets in his 10 overs spell with career best figures of seven wickets for only 28 runs.

This left the visitors hurt and Vryheid could only manage another 39 runs, with all out for 111 in the 22nd over. Vryheid might have thought they were in with a chance when they removed one of the opening batsman for Umtshezi early but Sami Ullah, scoring 84 (49) not out, was next in and took favour to the bowlers of Vryheid and elegantly stroked the ball to all parts of Lambert Park with 15 fours and one six at a strike rate of 171.

This left little to do for the supporting batsman and Umtshezi cruised to victory in the 15th over, winning the game by six wickets. Best bowler for Vryheid was Clifford Dougherty with three wickets for 32 runs in four overs bowled.

On Saturday, Aster played a T20 day game against the Wembezi All stars.  Aster won the toss and elected to bat first.

Wembezi struck early yet could not crack the second wicket partnership of Prenay Kewalpersadh, not out on 124 (56), and Lloyd Ramdeen, scoring 51 (47) that took the Aster team to 211/2 after 20 overs.

Best bowler for Wembezi was Impilo, taking one wicket for 30 runs in four overs. Requiring over 10 runs per over, the Wembezi team surely had their backs to the wall and although in a valiant attempt, fell well short and were all out for 50 runs, giving Aster the win by 161 runs.

Best bowler for Aster was Ramlal with an excellent spell, taking six wickets for only 12 runs. On Friday, Colita CC played Farhaan Hardware (FH) in a T20 night match. FH won the toss and sent Colita in to bat. Colita forged a solid batting performance together against a fiery and excitable bowling attack and managed 145/6 after 20 overs.

Best batsman for Colita and carrying his bat through the innings was Trivashin Sewraj not out on 52 (44). Best bowler for FH was Imran taking two wickets for 33 runs in his four over spell. FH took two early losses during their chase, yet managed to find themselves ahead of the required run rate by the 12th over with contributions from Mohammed Ali, scoring 55 (44) and Imran with 35 (40).

Colita buckled down and managed to bring the game to 19 runs required of the last 18 balls after the game was surely in the favour of the FH team yet FH could not aspire to the challenge and fell short giving Colita the win by 11 runs.
Best bowler for Colita was the Man of the Match Trivashin Sewraj with three wickets for 19 runs in his four overs bowled.

He was also involved in the crucial run out of Mohammed Ali, with a rocket throw from the boundary ropes that had Mr Ivayoo diving like a young man to complete the run out. On Thursday, Farhaan Aluminium (FA) played a T20 night game against Macksons XI. FA won the toss and elected to bat first. FA managed to crack 205/7 in their 20 overs with all the batsman making starts and contributing at over 10 runs per over with the pick of the batsman for FA being Sajaad with 40 (26).

Best bowler for Macksons was Raymond with two wickets for 29 runs in his four over spell.  Macksons came out firing in the attempt to chase down the 200 plus score but with eight of the 10 batsman seeing their bails toppled in some accurately executed bowling from the FA team things were made near impossible.

Top batsman for Macksons was Raymond with 18 but this was hardly enough as Macksons were all out for 67, giving FA the win by 138 runs. Best bowler for the FA team was Adil with excellent figures of five wickets for 14 runs in three overs bowled.
