Golfers test their mettle at steel giant’s golf tournament

The event is sure to become an annual calendar event for ArcelorMittal.

ArcelorMittal golfers tested their mettle recently and despite adverse weather conditions putting a damper on play, a total of 80 players participated at the Newcastle Golf Course in the ArcelorMittal Golf Tournament.

Play got underway from 9am on the morning. 20 teams of four teed off in the spirit of camaraderie and team building, with a watering hole on the 15th quenching the players’ thirsts. However, this also made for some unorthodox drives.

At the conclusion of play, the team of ArcelorMittal General Manager Charlton Whitcher, Barry Glutz, Dirk van Zyl and Adriaan Roux outscored the other teams with 65 points.

The top three teams on the day each received a trophy. Golfers also had the chance to win one of 10 lucky draw prizes, and were kept sated with hot dogs from Ben Chowles and his team from The Real Tree.

The event is sure to become an annual calendar event for ArcelorMittal.

The company’s Joe Nowbath, Manager for Socio-economic Development says:

“The day was indeed one that served to once again embrace employees and build the aspect of teamwork and unity, similar to other social interventions such as soccer, fun runs and fishing.”
