Wessel’s perfect start to his golfing new year
Wessel takes the honours on his first attempt
2019 couldn’t have started better for Dundee C.C. golfer, Wessel Odendaal.
Wessel won the Men’s B division Monthly Mug on Saturday. Wessel has been a regular golfer for a few years but had until Saturday, never competed in a Medal competition where the player is required to hole out, irrespective of the number of shots played -so to win his first Monthly Mug at his first attempt was a great achievement. John Zulu won the Men’s A division Mug with a net 69, while Debbie Catlett was the best of the ladies to win their Mug with a net 70.
The prize for the best gross score recorded on the day went to Pierre Booysen who shot 76. There were only two players who managed to record a 2 Club on the day, and these were Richard Catlett at the 4th hole and Dan Scholtz on the 16th hole.
The Friday meat competition, kindly sponsored by Bob Bentley, attracted a good field of 18 layers which saw Dan Scholtz beating Debbie Catlett on a count out to win first prize with 22 points. Mandla Mthethwa beat Walter Du Plessis on a count out to take home third prize after both players scored 21 points.
However, Walter never went home empty handed as he was the only player to record a 2 Club and receive some extra cash.
The only formal competition played over the festive period was The Roger Ross Memorial Trophy played on Boxing Day, which attracted a field of 30 golfers for the I.P.S. event which saw Tim Catlett winning the day with 38 individual points. Second place went to Lala Govender who beat Rob Streak on a count-out after both players finished with 37 points.
Four players, Vlooi Slabbert, John Zulu, Pierre Booysen and Zaine Smith all recorded a 2 Club at the 12th hole.
UPCOMING EVENTS:
After a two week break, Dave’s Wednesday Competition will resume again this coming Wednesday afternoon and then on Friday, there will be the 10 Hole Chicken Run. On Saturday, January 12 the Club Competition will be a 4 B.B.B.S. format.
