Derek Scullard takes Northern KZN Open Golf Championships

This past Sunday saw Dundee Country Club host the 90th event of the Northern KZN Open Golf Championships, which attracted a very strong field of golfers from all around the province.
More than 30 of the 84 players that entered were handicapped at three or better which saw the split between A and B division being made at a low handicap of five.
It was none other than KwaZulu-Natal’s number one amateur golfer, Derek Scullard from Mt Edgecombe CC, who managed to hold onto his lead after shooting a one-under-par 70 in the morning and finish on 141, to beat the local favourite, Mason Meyer by two shots to claim the 2019 trophy.
Three players finished with a total of 144, and it was last year’s winner, Jason Gilliver from Umdoni Park GC, who claimed the third prize on a count out from Vryheid’s Corne Van Deventer and Kyle Kistensamy playing out of Prince’s Grant CC.

The B division was won by Kwambonambi’s Jason Trollip on a score of 149 followed by local golfer John Zulu on 151 with John Clark from Vulintaba CC finishing in third position.
The prize for the best nett score of the day was won by Jo Khumalo with Sifiso Kunene being the runner-up.

This coming Sunday, January 27, sees the first round of the N.KZN Men’s league fixtures for 2019.

Dave’s Wednesday Comp, and Saturday’s Club competition will be a 4 B.B.B.S. event.

Dundee’s Mason Meyer put in a great performance to earn second place.
