‘Nervy’ victory for Estcourt cricketers

In the only cricket match of the weekend, the Estcourt team took on Dundee in the KwaZulu-Natal Promotional League on Sunday.

Having lost the away fixture late last year, the Estcourt boys were up for the battle and ready to inflict some revenge on their opponents.

Upon winning the toss, Estcourt’s captain, Lloyd Ramdeen did not hesitate in putting the opposition in to bat first. In perfect conditions for 50 over cricket, this proved to be the correct decision.

With regular wickets by an excellent bowling attack, Estcourt was able to bowl Dundee out for 177 runs in the 44th over.

The best bowler for Estcourt was Brandon Richards who ripped through the middle order and took six wickets for a mere 26 runs, in just shy of nine overs bowled.

He was well supported by Amith Mangaroo with three wickets for just 36 runs in his 10 over spell. Estcourt’s innings got off to a shaky start with an early loss of one of their openers.

However, a solid third wicket partnership by opener Sami Ullah (45 runs) and PrenayKewalpersadh (59 runs) ensured a well-managed run chase for most of Estcourt’s innings.

However, a mini-collapse towards the end made it a nervy finish but Estcourt went on to chase down the score in the 33rd over.  An experienced and valuable contribution by Munir Mohammed (25 not out) securing the victory.
