APL semi-finals knock-out – Anglers hook massive prizes
The duel between Ladysmith AC and Challengers AC saw the less fancied Challengers AC put up stiff resistance
The APL semi-finals Knock Out fixture at Richgate Park, on February 3, proved to be highly competitive as the top four who had progressed to this stage after the KO Eliminator was determined to advance to the KO Finals. After the draw of the zones was completed, Ladysmith AC and Challengers AC were locked in a tussle in Zone 2, while Breakwaters AC and their sister club, Stillwaters AC, pitted their skills against each other in Zones 3/4.
Breakwaters notched 99 points while Stillwaters 42 points.
The duel between Ladysmith AC and Challengers AC saw the less fancied Challengers AC put up stiff resistance as they accumulated 97 points, however, Ladysmith AC finished the day with 120 points. Both Breakwaters AC and Ladysmith AC will compete for the title of Transnat KO Champions on March 10 at Sandford.
The “Angler of Day” was Ebrahim Mia, of Challengers AC, who raked up an impressive total of 40 points with a good haul of Barbels, winning the “red” cap, R200 and an outright trophy. Harold Verwey, of Stillwaters AC, caught a monstrous Barbel of 13,550kg which was safely released.
The top five anglers for Breakwaters/Stillwaters AC were Ronnie Rampersadh (18 points); followed by Werner Pieterse (14 points); Ossie Oosthuizen (14 points); Harold Verwey (14 points) and Shakeel Sheik (10 points).
The next competition of the APL is VME League 6 on February 17, at Richgate Park, which will determine the title holders of the APL and the top three anglers of season with the “APL Angler of Year” winning R3 000 tackle voucher and family weekend at the prestigious Chimani Resort on Vaal River with the compliments of Andre Bait and Tackle.
The title contenders thus far:- Haroon Bosman (LAC) (Heaviest Scaled Fish – carp of 4,374kg); Sagie Moodley (BAC) (Heaviest Non Scaled Fish – Barbel of 5,822kg); Ashley Baijnath (SAC) (Rare Specie – Kurper of 566g); Talia Boodhoo (SAC) (Junior and Lady Angler of the Year); Cyril Appalsamy (SAC) (Senior Angler of the Year) and Sikander Amod (BAC) (Angler of Year).
