Runners from far and wide supported the honorary marathon for Thembinkosi Willies Mchunu

Estcourt runners together with many visiting runners eagerly waited at the starting line at Estcourt High School on Saturday morning.

It was time for the TW Mchunu Legacy Marathon, which was hosted to honour KwaZulu-Natal Premier, Thembinkosi Willies Mchunu who hails from Wembezi.

The three distances started at Estcourt High School and finished at the Wembezi Sports Grounds, where the Mr Mchunu along with the Minister of Sports and Recreation and Inkosi Langalibalele Local Municipality Mayor welcomed the runners.

This race attracted 411 runners, some from as far as Zimbabwe, Lesotho, Swaziland and Gauteng.

“We would like to thank everyone who played a part in making this marathon a resounding success, from the marshals, the runners, the Estcourt and Wembezi police, local traffic department, Inkosi Langalibalele Municipality, Estcourt High School, medical teams who were on standby, all the athletic clubs and the Sports and Recreation Department,” said one of the organisers, Celi Makhoba with gratitude.

The winners all walked away with amazing cash prices and an amazing experience.
