Breakwaters clinches VME League title

Due to its consistent performance throughout the season, despite tough competition from Ladysmith however, Breakwaters was still crowned VME League champion.

Despite winning the VME League 6, Ladysmith Angling Club fell short of overall victory.

At the fixture on February 17, Ladysmith AC emerged victors with 108 points, 16 points clear of log leaders Breakwaters (92 points) and well shy of third-placed Stillwaters (32 points).

Dannhauser earned 23 points, Challengers scored 18 points and Glencoe got 13 points.

Due to its consistent performance throughout the season, despite tough competition from Ladysmith however, Breakwaters was still crowned VME League champion.

Ladysmith had to settle for second, just four points short of the winner.

Stillwaters claimed third place on the log, ahead of Challengers in fourth, Dannhauser in fifth and Glencoe at the bottom of the table in sixth place.

Breakwaters also claimed the Angler of the Day title. Team captain Monty Slabbert scored 23 individual points, which was not enough however, to wrest the Angler of the Year crown from fellow Breakwaters angler Sikander Amod on 57 individual points in total.

Third place went to Rajendra Garahoo of Challengers.

Sikander has thus won himself a family weekend getaway at a prestigious resort on the Vaal River and fishing tackle to the value of R3 000.

Other title winners are:

Haroon Bosman of Ladysmith – Heaviest Scaled Fish for a carp of 4.374 kilograms,

Sagie Moodley of Breakwaters – Heaviest Non Scaled Fish for a barbel of 5.822kg

Ashley Baijnath of Stillwaters – Rare Species for a kurper of 566g

Talia Boodhoo of Stillwaters – Junior Angler of the Year

Veruschka Boodhoo of Stillwaters – Lady Angler of the Year

Ronnie Rampersadh of Breakwaters – Senior Angler of the Year.

The next fixture on the Angling Professional League (APL) calendar is the Transnat Knock Out final on March 10, where Breakwaters and Ladysmith look to settle the score.

“The officials of the APL thank all its affiliates for making the VME League such a resounding success, and for being highly competitive yet still displaying good sportsmanship.”
