Golfers schooled at fundraiser

Newcastle Golf Club President, George Meyer said the competition was well supported.

Huttenpark Primary School held its annual golf day at the Newcastle Golf Club in Barry Hertzog Park, on Saturday (March 9).

The Supertech Huttenpark Sponsored Golf Day organiser, Monika van Vuuren, said this was a great fundraising project for the school.

“We are happy to have Supertech BMW Newcastle as our main sponsor. The proceeds will go to the school’s heart project, from which we are able to feed children from impoverished backgrounds and pay for school fees for some of the children. We have a lot of sponsors and we are proud of such initiatives, because it shows everyone wants to see change in our communities.”

Newcastle Golf Club President, George Meyer said the competition was well supported.

“This was one of the best organised golf days in a very long time. We were well supported with a field of about 144 golfers, all of whom enjoyed themselves immensely.”

Supertech BMW Newcastle Dealer Principal, Ray Williams said they welcome initiatives which focus on the greater good.

“We decided to get involved in this project because we want to support our communities. Business has been good and it’s all thanks to the community who support and love Supertech. We were voted the best dealership in the country for the year 2007. We are still waiting for the 2018 results but are confident about those results too. We get involved with many different schools and we are proud to have adopted Huttenpark Primary School. In December we visited many orphanages, delivering food and other necessities. We pride ourselves in community work.”

The results were as follows:

1. Manie Mostert/Harry de Jager (48 points onco)
2. Andre Potgieter/Hentie van Staden (48 points onco)
3. A. Brits/Tinkie vd Heever (47 points onco)
4. G. Lindeque/Bennie van Vuuren (47 points onco)
5. Almero Roux/Peet (45 points).
