‘To the one that got away’ – Family Fishing Day reels in the fun

A lucky draw was also held with many consolation prizes up for grabs.

ArcelorMittal Newcastle hosted its Annual Family Fishing Day on the March 9.

Anglers queued from as early as 2am, to be first in line when the gates opened at 5am.

A total of 88 adult anglers and 18 children anglers attended the event, which was held at the Ntshingwayo Dam on a perfect day for fishing, with clear blue skies and calm water.

The weigh-in took place at 3pm and only scaled fish were considered.

The first prize for men went to Andrew van der Westhuizen who landed a carp weighing 3.6 kilograms.

First prize in the women’s category went to Shelly McQuade for a carp of 0.385kg, while Talia vd Westhuizen landed a 0.391kg carp to grab the first prize in the children’s category.

A lucky draw was also held with many consolation prizes up for grabs.

The Family Fishing Day is an annual event intent on building employee relations and boosting team spirit.
